I EPSOM DOWNS TURF NOTES ! - i Jockey Charles "Chuck" Parke has made a substantial gain in the race for leading jockey" honors at the Epsom Downs meeting and, at the start of Thursdays racing, was only sixty-three points behind Ray Hightshoe, who has been the leader since the contest was inaugurated. Hightshoe has a total of 285 points, while Parke has piled up 222 points, and Warren Cornay is third with 183 points. All licensed owners and trainers at Epsom Downs have been invited to be the guests of general manager Frank Reitman at noon Friday in the clubhouse, at the close of which several matters of importance will be discussed which involve the turfmen and the management. Howard Oots Schuie was excused from starting in the eighth race Thursday by the stewards upon the recommendation of the trar- veterinarian, who reported that the filly suffered an attack of colic. W. C. Stroube, Corsicana, Texas, sports man and owner of Croon, which won the Rangers Handicap, Wednesday, returned to his home following the success of the marc and was much elated over the victory, which virtually makes the daughter of Stimulus Mclodia the champion sprinter of the Epsom Downs meeting. Word was received by John Carey from San Antonio that the C. W. Hay Memorial Handicap, a ,000 added event, will headline the stakes program during the fifty days meeting scheduled to open on January 1 at Alamo Downs. Former jockey Jimmy King purchased the plater Montaris from T. Novak for a private consideration Thursday morning. J. D. Lar-kin represented Novak in the transaction. B. L. Dishong, who is supervising the handling of the three thoroughbreds that race in the interest of Dishong Brothers, registered the following trio with the racing secretary: Moss Bond, Texas Moon and Chiming Bells. They came in from Riverside Park. Lane Wilson, Dallas sportsman, is contcm plating the purchase of a number of yearlings at the annual sales to be conducted at Keeneland beginning next Monday.
