. IDLE ALONGS GREAT EFFORT Responds Willingly Under Leisch-man to Beat Count Dean. Good Week-Day Crowd Witnesses Rockingham Program Merovech and Bain Marie Provide Big Upsets. SALEM, N. H., Oct 15. Mrs. W. R. Flem-mings Idle Along won the mile event for three-year-olds and older that featured an off-day of sport at Rockingham Park this afternoon. The winner, piloted by the up and coming youngster, Wally Leischman, appeared many pounds the best even though she was only a neck in front of Mrs. I. Romms Count Dean as they flashed by the judges. She responded willingly when her rider demanded it at the head of the stretch and drove up gamely to whip her persistent rival. The winner and the runner-up ruled almost equal favorites. M. OBriens Kindacorn finished third, a length behind the battling leaders. Onrush, the early pacemaker, wai fourth in the field of eight. Warmer weather and the later post time brought out a better crowd than has been attending the races on recent week days and the betting improved considerably. The skies were threatening all afternoon but no rain developed. The track was fast KERRY PATCH TIRES. Onrush and Count Dean went out to make the pace with Kerry Patch after them and the winner was rated fourth until they approached the far turn. "There Onrush began to drop back and after a brief spurt that carried him to second place for a moment, Kerry Patch also shortened strides. Count Dean was on top by a narrow margin as they straightened out for home but Leischman had begun his move on Idle Along in earnest and the mare showed on top at the eighth pole. She was unable to draw out but under brisk handling from the light-weight pilot retained a neck advantage to the end and showed no sighs of faltering in the final stages. Kindacorn charged by tiring horses to take the show award. They finished out the mile in 1:39. Little Willie Duffy, who gets few opportunities, put up a good ride to win the first event, at six furlongs, astride Miss Mary Whites Merovech. At the end the winner was a neck clear of T. F. Swords Johnny-cake, with Miss A. Doris Starogan third, a length and a half back of the runner-up. Uppercut turned in a good race to land fourth and should improve off the effort. ENERGETIC BIDE. H. E. Engers Bain Marie drove up fast in the stretch under an energetic ride from Wimmer to catch the pacemaking Happy Nymph from R. J. Hayes stable and beat the latter by a length. Mrs. J. J. Dolans Rafter charged up in the final seventy yards to take third place by a head over Bob Charlie. Harry Browns Blue Spur, ridden by M. Greer, won the mile third event, for older maidens, one of the cheapest races decided in New England this season. The winner finished out four lengths in front of P. A. Shaws Yankee Prince, taking the lead on the turn for home and drawing off in the final lane to score easily. It was a camera finish for the show, with E. T. Burkes well-supported Bristle gaining that award by a head over Miss Eleanor Powers Johns Son. Oaktree Stables Keokee, a 6 to 5 choice, won the fourth race at three-quarters, in which heads and noses separated the first four horses in the field of half a dozen. At the end the Happy Argo gelding was a head in "front of Mrs. HITH. Browns Happy Helen, which had a nose to spare over Infinata. Blue Day, turning in a performance that was a great improvement over recent efforts, finished another head back in fourth place. Dorothy B. and Sure Hour were the only other starters. The sixth brought out five two-year-olds to race. one mile. Mrs. P. A. Shaws Hollus-. chickie ran right back to a previous good effort and won by. a length over the heavily supported Copo, which was defeated partially because he ran wide rounding the final turn, and once straightened away in the stretch the winner-had gained a good lead that the filly could not overtake. Donald Duck finished third, a length in front of Tellwick.
