LAUREL PARK TURF NOTES I s s Word reached here from Baltimore that William Ashton, Sr former owner of the Reading International League baseball team, passed away. The deceased was well known among, the racing fraternity as well as baseball circles and his end came as a shock to his many friends. His Sons, William, Jr, and Robert, are connected with the Nationwide News Service. Jockey C. Kurtsinger departed for New York after the final race on a business trip. He will return to ride on Friday. Sparky, five-year-old mare which performed in the second race at Laurel on Wednesday for R. H. Heighe, pulled up decidedly lame after the running and will likely be on the shelf for the remainder of the season. Jockey Hubert Le Blanc, who took the lead among the riders early in the meeting here, remains as the leader with eleven winners in the first ten days. Jockey J. West-rope is second with seven winners and the following are bunched at six each: E. Tucker, R. Root and M. Peters. J. M. Black, who has raced a small string in Florida each season, has applied for stable accommodations at Tropical Park for several useful horses. Jimmy Loftus, publicity director for the Gables Racing Association, who is here in the interest of the Tropical Park meeting, reports that work on beautifying the grounds at the Bird Road course is rapidly nearing completion. Loftus is in constant touch with the situation in Florida and predicts a banner session as some of the leading stables have applied for stable accommodations. It was learned here Thursday that Charles Beal has severed his relations as trainer of the A. Getz stable. u.iji ux u
