MORE RAIN AT CINCINNATI River Downs Card for Friday Ruined and Attendance Suffers. Alice Highland Slakes Every Post a Winning One in Third Race Innls Jones Disappoints. CINCINNATI, Ohio, Oct 16. Rain, which has greatly interfered with the River Downs season, prevailed again today and in addition to causing numerous scratches and the re-opening of the fifth race on the card, it held the attendance down. Coming at a time when the racing strip was soft under the top surface, the rain, which started during the early morning hours, left the course muddy and only those performers favoring such a strip were successful. In most instances winners won by big margins and surprises were numerous. One of the best fields met at six furlongs in the third race and it resulted in another disappointment when the heavily supported Innis Jones finished seventh among a field of ten juveniles. Winning honors went to Hanly Ragans Alice Highland, which was making her first start The daughter of Kai-Sang and Bonify was rushed into the lead and made every post a winning one to be home eight lengths before Oddesa Farms Obstinate Boy at the end. I. J. Collins Sun Jug was third. Willie Farrell was astride the Ragan miss and she merely cantered throughout Dusty Boots chased the leaders for three furlongs, but dropped back and bled while being pulled up. When Dusty Boots gave way Sun Jug moved into third place and also failed to threaten the leaders. Obstinate Boy reaching the end four lengths before him. Sun Jug held Busy Jane safe. LACKS PREVIOUS FORM. Innl3 Jones displayed none of her form that carried her to victory in her previous 3tarts. Although beginning fast she dropped back soon afterwards and only made up ground in the drive. The first popular score came with the fourth event, when C. B. Shafcrs Onside turned back Cherokee Red, Butch and three others at the end of six furlongs. Rushed .to the front by E. Rodriguez and making his own pace, Onside dropped back slightly when taken to the outside entering the stretch, but, responding to the lads good urging, he came again to be a length before Cherokee Red at the end. The opening event for two-, three- and four-year-old maidens resulted in a surprise and afforded Robert "Smash" Mitchell, Negro rider, the opportunity to score the second victory of his career when Burt Popes Clive was an easy winner at the end of six furlongs. Hasty Ann, also lightly regarded, was second, with So Good, a "fielder," third. Far back while Sturdy Boy and So Good were battling for leadership, the winner drove down on the outside to take command and lead Hasty Ann by two and one-half lengths at the end. After relinquishing the lead, Sturdy Boy quit badly and Whata Question, second choice, showed little to merit her support. BUSY DAUGHTER AN UPSET. Another upset came with the second race, also at six furlongs, when Busy Daughter carried R. R. Roberts colors to an easy victory over Stonecrop; Pargo and eight other lowly platers. Phalarope, the choice, finished fourth. Stonecrop established a big advantage after disposing of Phyllis R. during the run to the far turn, but she tired fast after five furlongs, and! the winner, which came from far back, drove down on the outside to be two lengths before her at the end. Pargo also came from a good ways back to garner third honors, and Jaz Age and Come Home quit.
