EIGHT IN CICERO HANDICAP Rock X. Heads Field Named Overnight for Great Lakes Handicap at Popular Sportsmans Park. CICERO, 111., Oct 16. The , Great Lakes Handicap, the first of three ,200 features to be offered by the National Jockey Club, will be offered as the feature event of tomorrows program at popular Sportsmans Park. The race is for, three-year-olds and upward over seven furlongs and, over night it drew a field of eight, among them the best performers on the grounds. Heading the array of probable starters is the Tranquillity Farms Rock X., winner of the Inaugural Handicap at Hawthorne, just across the way from here, and the Crete Handicap at Lincoln Fields. This crack sprinter, which will have the saddle services of jockey Basil James, leading rider of the Chicago season, has been assigned top weight of 116 pounds. It is considered likely that the Tranquillity representative will rule the betting choice for the Great Lakes Handicap. Among those scheduled to oppose Rock X. are such able performers as C. E. Davisons Navanod, easy winner of the Calumet City Handicap here Thursday; A. A. Youngs Countess Ann, winner last Tuesday of the Berwyn Purse; Hardy and Gers Bushmaster, captor of the Columbus Day Purse here on opening day last Monday, and Garrett Watts fleet sprinter, Silverette, which will be making her first start at the local meeting. The others which round out the field are Cardarrone, from the Blue Ridge Farm, which has been enjoying much success here and Mrs. R. F. Carman, Jr.s Coldwater Wet or dry track, it is believed all of this array will face starter George Palmer tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrows program brings the first week of the Sportsmans Park meeting to a close ana. for the occasion racing secretary Robert s. fanelley has arranged a most attractive card of eight races. The first is scheduled for two oclock, fifteen minutes earlier than on week days.
