CANADAS FINAL MEETING Dufferin Park, Nicknamed "Little Saratoga," Opens Seven-day Meeting Today. TORONTO, Ont, Oct 16. Racing in the Dominion of Canada for the final seven days of the 1936 season gets under way with the opening of Dufferin Park, Torontos popular half mile track, tomorrow. Much of the success which attended the Long Branch meeting is expected for the final weeks racing. The officials of the Metropolitan Racing Association, in accordance with the upturn in business enjoyed by the Ontario tracks, expect the largest attendance in some years. With an overabundance of racing material from which to choose, racing secretary Pat C. Galliger is expecting to bring together some of the better grade performers which have campaigned at the Toronto meetings. Dufferin Park, known to the racing fraternity as "Little Saratoga," has the appearance of being at its best, and horsemen are high in praise of track superintendent Pat Sheridan for the condition of the course. Very few changes have been made in the plant, but all Is in readiness for the opening. Once again, there will be the free admission after the running of the fifth race, with the exception of Saturdays for those who are unable to attend the entire program. Free gate patrons will be restricted to the spacious infield, which boasts a most complete mutuel pavilion. Racing secretary Pat C. Galliger has arranged a splendid program for the opening, headed by the British Consols Handicap, over the six and one-half furlongs distance, which brings together seven of the better grade platers, all tried half-milers.
