1 FOREIGN TURF NOTES s $ William Woodward, noted American turfman, owner of Omaha and the St. Lcger winner, Boswell, has sent a check for 00 to the Rous Memorial Hospital at Newmarket.. Among the recent purchases of the Soviet government are the stallions Press Gang and Trade Wind. The former is by Hurry On Fifinella, which was bred by the late Lord Woolavington and exported to France. Trade Wind is a four-year-old colt by Fair-away, which recently won for Lord Derby. Marcel Boussacs filly. Corrida, which beat Taj Akbar in the Grand International at Ostend in August, captured the Prix de lArc de Triomphe at Longchamp, France, on Sunday, October 4. The filly was an odds-on choice and easily defeated Cousine and Fantastic. The latter had previously won the Deauville Grand Prix and the French St. Leger. The race was worth about 0,000. According to word from Paris, the entire stable of the American sportsman, A. K. Macomber, will be transferred from France to England at the end of the present racing season. A number will be sold in France before the shipment of about fifteen horses in training, eight yearlings and brood mares, which will be sent to Newmarket, where Mr. Macombers stallions, Rose Prince and Brumeux, are already located. Montroses victory in the Duke of York Handicap on October 3 was scored in fast time, the mile and a quarter being run in 2:03 with the winner carrying 133 pounds. Montrose is a six-year-old horse by the Derby winner, Coronach, and Accalmie, and is one of the most popular handicap horses in training in England.
