1 LAUREL PARK TURF NOTES I s and Nominations for the six stakes to be run during the meeting of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association at Bowie have been compiled and the list reveals a large increase over last year. Peter A. Markey, part-owner of the Bomar Stable, who is visiting at Keeneland, sent word that he would return to Laurel in the next couple of days. Jockey Johnny Gilbert, who signed to ride for John Hay Whitney for another year, is expected to join the riding colony at Laurel after the close of the Keeneland meeting. Steel Toes, useful three-year-old in the stable of J. E. Simmons, bowed during the running of the second race at Laurel Monday. He will be on the shelf for the balance of the season. Jockey F. M. Smith left for Empire City and will ride at that point during the remainder of the meeting. Jockey R. Merritt packed his riding equipment and departed for New England to ride at Narragansett Park, which opens Friday.
