GOOD OMEN IN GREAT FORM Takes Lead Shortly After Start and Finishes Length in Front. Bonanza Turns In Game Performance to Annex Place Award in Rockingham Feature Sky Lad Surprises. SALEM, N. H., Oct 20. Miss L. C. Whites Good Omen took the lead immediately after the start and stuck it out the rest of the way home to win the six furlongs fourth event, that featured todays card at Rockingham Park. The winner finished out a length in front of Mrs. A. Schwartz Bonanza. Mrs. R. Fairbanks Bluebeard, which was out in the pace fight from start to finish, was a length and a half back of the runner-up and a neck in front of Infinata as they passed the judges. Duffy broke the winner fast and went to the top before they had gone twenty yards. Bluebeard was in closest pursuit and made several determined runs, but each time the second horse loomed as a dangerous factor. Duffy shook up his mount and she began to draw off. In the stretch Bluebeard shortened stride and Bonanza moved up stoutly to take second place. At the eighth post it appeared momentarily that the latter might trouble the winner but Duffy again set his mount down and under vigorous handling she went away from the field in the final sixteenth. Bonanza turned in a game effort but simply was not good enough for the running horse that Good Omen proved to be this afternoon. Bluebeard was tiring after his early efforts but managed to outgame Infinata in the stretch drive. IDEAL CONDITIONS. It was a beautiful day and a good crowd turned out in force for the sport, which has only two more days to run at this " " " point. J. B. Millers Royal Broom led for nearly every step of the journey to win the second, a six furlongs event Ridden by F. Collins, the Royal Canopy filly showed the way down the back stretch and. around the turn and successfully staved off a strong bid from Opoca in the stretch to beat J. L. Johnstons Campaigner by two and a half lengths. Opoca made a strong run in the final sixteenth, but could not get up. Romney Royal may have been the best horse in the race. He passed three horses coming into the stretch, but Rose quit whipping at the eighth pole and he dropped back. M. J. Takeras Sky Lad romped home in the third over one mile, Wimmer finishing five lengths in front of Mrs. Grace M. Pomeroys Grandmas Boy. It was an Indian-file finish for first and second, with G. J. Rooneys Yenoor. three lengths back of the second horse and half a length in advance of Teddy Carl. The winner supplanted Lee Gold in the lead as they approached the far turn and drew away for the remainder of the distance. Grandmas Boy was out in front, but the Takera racer showed too much speed in the stretch for him. He was widely best for the secondary award. The race was run in 1:39. Ronfalon, from the stable of Mrs. Raymond Pollard, sprung a surprise when he led home the Michael Orin campaigner. Watch Him, by a length in the fifth and supporting race to the feature. Watch Him raced to the front on the clubhouse turn and set the pace to within a shadow of the finish where Ronfalon came from behind to be drawing away winner by a length. "Watch Him just barely lasted to nose out Even Up for second place. Plucky Baby, the favorite in the "tote," could at no time gain a prominent position and raced far back throughout the entire, running. Cinar showed excellent speed for a mile and only after reaching the stretch did he tire sufficiently to allow Even Up and Kindacorn to pass him.
