STAR BESS came across sharply while taking command approaching the turn and, after drawing into a clear lead, was never threatened. EVILO, a factor from the beginning, failed to threaten the winner, but held on well in the drive. CHARWITCH, in close quarters early, challenged mildly after a half mile and then tired when put to pressure in the closing stages. STARAB had no mishaps. NOTAR lost ground rounding the first turn and never threatened thereafter. COUNTESS REIGH, fractious at the post and placed on the outside for the start, was outrun. ROYAL LEON, taken back soon after the start, began to improve his position after a half mile and, coming to the outside for the, drive, finished courageously. BARBARA CAROM, having the most speed, readily gave -way to the winner .when challenged and then tired badly in the final eighth. WAR DIMES improved his position gradually, .offered a. mild challenge after five-eighths and then tired. SLIP KNOT raced evenly. SPARKLING ROSE tired after a half mile. GAY BLADE broke slowly, raced into contention with a rush on the inside after a quarter, took command alter a half mile and, under a sharp rousing, drew away. AMERICAN RED, placed on the outside for the start and away fast, had good early speed, readily gave way to the winner and, though tiring in the finl quarter, stalled off SOUTHLAND TOY. The latter improved his position steadily after about a half mile and finished with good courage. KING BONNY, far out of contention for five-eighths, closed strongly. POLLYS FOLLY was through after a half mile. FABIUS broke down badly after about five-eighths.
