BLUE BONNETS TURF NOTES $ M. C. OConner, custodian of the jockeys room, reports that forty riders have filed applications for badges. and that there are more expected by Monday. Trainer C. Ferretti arrived at Montreal from Havana, Cuba, with the horses of Dr. E. Durand, prominent Cuban physician, and will remain in Canada for the summer. They are Long Count and Susan Miller. Ferretti also reports that L. Serri, with Hope Loring and Hero Olga, and F. Castro, with Kuvito and Golden Beam, are en route from the Cuban capital. Sierra and Castro raced in Canada last season. , Apprentice M. Contino, a Cuban youngster under contract to C. Ferretti, arrived from Cuba and was seen in action on opening day. Contino has had experience in Cuba and is expected to lead the apprentices in Quebec. Former jockey H. Gibson, who has entered the training ranks in charge of a public stable this season, has in his employ two local boys who he is starting as riders. They are E. Tobin and L. Burgess and were seen in action on opening day, and both showed that they have been thoroughly trained in the art of piloting horses. E. Tobin is under contract to L.
