BERNARDINE W., going in best form and responding readily to strong urging, gained steadily in the stretch and wore down FLYING TRUE in a hard drive. FLYING TRUE, well up from the start, drew into a good lead after three-eighths, saved ground throughout and held on with good courage, but could not withstand the winner. HIGH ONE, quick to get going and lucky to get through on the inside, assumed the lead before going a quarter and, holding on gamely, outstayed FAlRFLAX. The latter worked his way up gradually on the outside and was gaining steadily in the final stages. DON BYRD improved his position steadily and showed a good effort. SWEEPING BLAZE moved up with a rush on the outside approaching the stretch turn, but tired when straightened out in the stretch. BELL B. made up some ground. LIGHT ROLLS tired. ROSEMARY had brief early speed. FULL O PLAY bolted soon after the start and was pulled up. GOLDEN SEA unseated its rider at the start.. SHADOWDAWN saved ground throughout but tired in the drive. GUSTAVIA dropped out of it early and closed agood gap. COSSACK GIRL tired badly after setting, the pace for three-quarters.
