, j i i ARLINGTON MEETING NEAR Opening of Big Northwest Side Course Only One Week Away. Prominent Stables of East and Middle West to Be Represented Best Riders of Country Coming Here. One week remains, before the opening of the colorful Arlingtoii Park meeting on Monday, June 28. Already the great stables of America are despatching flying squadrons to Arlington from every point of the racing compass to compete for the 76,600 in stakes, purses and special awards offered here this -year. Eastern stables, rich in tradition and appointment, such as the Whitneys, William Woodwards Belair Stud, the Wheatley Stable, Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, the Brookmeade Stable, Willis Sharpe Kilmer, Robert L. Gerry, J. E. Widener and others will be represented. From across the border comes Canadas most successful racing establishment, the stable of Harry C. . Hatch, of Toronto, to contribute an international touch to -the meeting. - Out of the Kentucky blue grass, the cradle of thoroughbred breeding, come equine stalwarts racing for Hal Price Headley, Col. E. R. Bradley, Frank P. Letellier, the Wood-vale Farm and a strong contingent now campaigning at Latonia. DETROIT INVADERS. Detroits invaders will be headed by the successful Bomar Stable and the Oddesa Farms. Charles Bacharach, of. New Orleans, will send along his Southland Stable, and Miami will be represented by Elwood Sach-senmaiers Plight in the public stable o Phil Reuter. Walter . E. QHara, head r of Narragansett Park; will be at" Arlington with his wife, who will race her Araho Stable horses. They haVebeen liberally nominated in Arlingtons stakes. Meeting these invaders will be the stars of the great mid-western stables. Included in the "home guards" will be the horses of Mrs. John Hertz, Warren Wrights Calumet Stable, Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Milky Way Farm stable, the public establishment trained by Anthony Pelleteri, Mrs; Emil Denemark, X J. Coughlin, alderman of Chicagos first ward, and a full complement of stables now racing at Washington Park. COLORFUL JOCKEY COLONY. Arlington Parks jockey colony will be one of the most colorful in America. Among the riders who will be here regularly or commuting to fill stake engagements will be Charley Kurtsinger, of War Admiral fame;-1936 champion Basil James; Jack Westrope, who in 1933 rode more winners than any modern jockey with 301; Johnny Gilbert, smart star of the John Hay Whitney stable; Sammy Roberts, fighting now for the American leadership; Alfred Robertson, handsome riding veteran from Milky Way; Willie Saunders, riding for Hal Price Headley; Eddie Arcaro, from Greentree; Harry Rich-ards, pilot of Pompoon; Joe Renick, Irving Anderson, Lester Balaski, Leon "Buddy" Haas, Charley Corbett, Bobby Dotter and two-score others of proven ability. , STAR SPRINTERS. Stars of the mid-western sprint division swing into the final week of training for the ninth running of the Arlington Inaugural Handicap, the seven furlongs feature of the opening day card on June 28. This race, the first of the eight important" stake features studding the thirty-day meeting, has been raised in value from ,500 to ,000 this year. Fifty-three nominations, fourteen more than last year, have been received for it, reports racing secretary Charles J. McLennan. The track itself is a bright-hued masterpiece of pastoral beauty. Its 1,000 acres of well-wooded land, green lawns and grazing areas, crystal clear springs with water containing valued lime and iron ingredients, 1,500 immaculate stalls and three running tracks, is without a peer in America for the development and racing of horses.
