SHINING HEELS SCORES Outsider Triumphs Over Eleven Fillies in Clipsetta Stakes. Finishes Neck Before Genevra M. to Furnish Upset in Historic Race Fredalou Third. LATONIA, Ky., June 19. Overcast skies failed to dampen the enthusiasm of more than 10,000 racing devotees, who were in attendance at Latonia this afternoon to view the fifty-fifth renewal of the historic Clipsetta Stakes, five and a half furlongs dash for two-year-old fillies, that featured a well-balanced eight-race program, thereby completing half of the stakes fixtures on the calendar for the 1937 season. Twelve of the most highly regarded fillies in this section started, and A. L. Fergusons Shining Heels, which had scored an easy victory in her only previous start here, came through in surprising manner to capture the coveted prize from J. W. Parrishs Genevra M. by the margin of a neck. Two lengths farther back in third place, came F. P. Letelliers Fredalou, which had been installed the choice over the eleven others. Fourth money went to Mrs. F. Prestons Fine Mint. IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE. It was an impressive performance that the jet black daughter of Flying Heels Glimmer exhibited over the dull track that prevailed for the occasion, and was termed good to enrich the Georgetown breeder to the extent of ,785, the winners share of the pot. Shining Heels negotiated the five and a half furlongs in 1:07, two seconds slower than the track record, held jointly by T. M. Green and Bradleys Peggy. Although the triumph of Shining Heels came as somewhat of a surprise, the poor showing of J. O. Keenes Eponine, was quite a disappointment. The chestnut filly trailed the field from beginning to end. Astute turfmen had expected the Keene filly to give a much better account of herself in the second start of her career. POST DELAY. She opened up a lead of a head on Genevra M. in the first quarter, but this advantage was increased to two lengths as the stretch turn was reached. From the top of the stretch to the finish, Willie Garner worked on Shining Heels, and Willie Hanka sent Genevra M. after the pacemaker in hopes of causing her to tire under the early pace that she had set. Stride hy stride, Genevra M. reduced the margin separating her from the leader, hut could not get closer than a neck of the winner. Fredalou, which ruled a pronounced, favorite, began sluggishly and lost some ground when forced to race wide while working her way into contention and suffered a decisive defeat. Ada W. proved an easy winner of the three-quarters spin for three-year-olds that was third on the card, defeating Nanita by four lengths, with Atina, another well supported choice, landing third money. Ada W. broke rapidly and. immediately darted into command as Nanita made a vain effort to reach the pacemaker. The chestnut filly, from the M. Walker stable, performed in a manner that indicated she was much the best. DOUBLE FOB ROBERTS. Jockey Porter Roberts, who is showing the way to the riders here, made it a double for the afternoon when he guided Noma F. to an easy triumph over nine others of the same, age in a six furlongs dash that occupied fourth position on the card. Assist was second, two and a half lengths behind the winner, while Abby B. was third.
