PAY CHECK forced the early pace under strong restraint, drew into a short lead on the stretch turn and, holding on in improved fashion, stalled off UPHOLDER through the final eighth. The latter raced wide, entered contention with a rush and tired in the final eighth, but barely missed getting up. BLIND SAGE, far back for a half mile, made up ground steadily thereafter .and putfinished- TRANSPORT. The latter, on the inside for almost five-eighths, rallied after coming to the outside. PARVA STELLA, never far back and on the inside almost throughout, finished, resolutely under mild pressure. BOOTS GREENOCK raced wide and was going strongly on the outside in the late stages. MADERIS, a factor from the start and strongly urged after three-eighths, gave Vvay slightly near the end. SKY CLOUD tired after forcing the early pace. MISS RITZ lacked speed. CERVEZA pulled up lame. SHORT SKIRT, far back" for three-quarters and on the inside throughout, moved up with a rush in the stretch and appeared to harig near the end, but lasted to finish in a dead heat with PRINCE SPLENDOR, The latter raced wide, rallied when called upon after about five-eighths, and fought it. out gamely to the end.
