BUSY AGAIN AT AURORA Effects of Recent Blizzard Disappear From Tracks Vicinity. Applications on File at Secretarys Office for One Thousand Horses. Daily Arrivals. AURORA, 111., April 11 The business of getting ready to roll up the curtain on the Illinois racing season swings into high today at Aurora, where the first barrier will be sprung on May 2. Most of the effects of the recent blizzard have disappeared. Shipments of horses are arriving daily, racing secretary Dick Leighs office force is again in action after being unable to reach their office for two days, and from now on the wheels of industry will be whirling at full speed. Applications from about 200 owners for stall space are on file, Leigh reports. Most of the horsemen are moving into the west suburban plant from New Orleans and Hot Springs with a goodly sprinkling coming from Florida and the Pacific Coast. All in all reservations are asked for. nearly 1,000 horses, a number which will crowd the capacity of the Aurora barns to their utmost. But Leigh has made arrangements for all of them and can amply supply quarters for the demand. About half of this number are on hand now. The large list of applications points to the fact that horsemen are shooting for some of the 40,000 in purses that president Robert S. Eddy, Jr., and officials of the Fox Valley track are dangling before them. Such stables as "Butsy" Hernandez; Snowflake Stable, from out on the Coast, operated by that trick equestrienne, Alice Van; A. R. Born; Corsicana Stable; A. G. Tarn, and Mrs. A. M. Creech have requested space for their thoroughbreds, to mention only a few. Continued on eighteenth page. BUSY AGAINAT AURORA Continued from first page. Hernandez is bringing a string of fourteen northward from the Fair Grounds. In the band are some likely two-year-olds, including the mud-running filly Tell, which can also go at a good clip on a dry track. Tell is by Lee O. Cotner Wega. He also has Denim, strapping juvenile gelding. Among the three-year-olds that will sport the cerise and white silks of the Hernandez outfit are: Prince Argo; Mary Senate, a daughter of Chance Shot; Playki, by Playtime Halki, and Radio Charm. Fans remember the little blonde girl who accompanied the Snowflake Stable horses to the paddock at various Chicago tracks last year. She is Alice Van, trick rider from Los Angeles, who owns that establishment. Miss Vans father, P. J. Van has charge of training activities for his daughter and will have ten head at Aurora. Among them are Larry M., Dominant Darby, Irish Play, Royal Command and horses that are known to the local turf patrons.
