BOWIE TURF NOTES $ 0 Knoxville showed slight signs of lameness after his race according to trainer McCoole. Kenneth Gilpin, Virginia breeder was a visitor. He was accompanied by Mrs. Gilpin and it marked his first appearance since his illness last fall. J. E. Oros incread his lead at the meeting and has accounted for ten races. He leads the list of American riders with ninety-six victories. Joe Thomas came down from New York for the week-end. He will be on the firing line the opening day at Jamaica. Jack Campbell left for New York to confer with Jamaica officials about final details for that meeting. Jockey Don Meade was a visitor and later left for New York to report to trainer George Odom, for whom he rode in Florida. Meade said that the Odom horses were due at Belmont Park Saturday from Columbia, S. C. Johnny "Dyer" Gilbert will enter University Hospital, Baltimore, for an operation for nose trouble. Gilbert, on the grounds all winter, will resume riding in May.
