1 HAVRE DE GRACE NOTES Word was received here that Mrs. James Arthur, widow of the late horseman, is ill at her home, 3328 Spaulding Avenue, Baltimore, Md. It was learned here that jockey Earl Porter, through increasing weight, will forsake the saddle and be placed in charge of a division of the S. H. Fairbanks stable, to be campaigned in New England. George Phillips, a visitor over the weekend, returned to Jamaica to look after the horses of the Maemere Farm stable. L. G. "Buster" Bedwell recovered sufficiently from a recent illness to be present at Havre de Grace on Monday. Joseph B. Boyle, general manager of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association at Bowie, was a visitor at Havre de Grace, Monday. Jockey J. E. Oros, leading rider of the country, departed for Kentucky to report to his father, who holds his contract. Oros 1 was the leading rider at the recent Bowie meeting, where he won nineteen races. I Jockey E. DeCamillas, who rode Cockerel j and Chaps here Saturday for A. Untermyer, ! departed for Jamaica. The engagement book of jockey C. Fried-I man has been turned over to Jimmy Wallace for the rest of the Maryland racing season. Jockey E. Smith contracted a severe cold over the week-end and will remain out of the saddle for a few days. Arthur Brent, former trainer of the Erin-dale Stable, one of the leading racing establishments in the Dominion of Canada, was present for the racing at Havre de Grace, Monday. Louis Mascia purchased the four-year-old filly, Shimmering, from C. H. Charles, for terms that were not made public. Jack Hornsby has been secured to train the filly. Marshall A. Smith will ship four horses to Charles Town, W. Va., at the close of the meeting, at Pimlico.
