SCAPOSE, in close quarters early, found an opening around the far turn and, gaining gradually although racing wide, took the lead near .the end and held STAR. STEPPER safe. The latter sprinted to the front early to open up a good lead and, saving ground in the stretch, went well to the finish. SHASTA KLICK was a factor from the start in a good performance. KING ROYALE was hustled to a contending position early but dropped back nearing the stretch turn and never threatened the leaders thereafter. ELSTREE made up some ground. SHASTA BUDDY tired. SUN PORTLAND found an opening on the inside soon after the start and, racing closest to ACES WILD, came strongly through the stretch and, wearing down the latter, got up in the closing strides. ACES WILD opened up a good lead and, although saving ground in the stretch and hard ridden, was unable to hold the winner. LT. GREENOCK closed a gap. LEIGHTONWOOD raced well. GOLD TROPHY, acting badly at the post, bore out in the early stages, interfering with POLARIS and TOP BILLING. POLARIS had little chance. Corrected weight Paper Sun, 113; Top Billing, 113. DON GUZMAN made a steady move after leaving the back stretch and finished well. SIRGAY was a factor from the start. EURIPIDES finished fairly well. DARE BUNNY was used up making the pace and tired. ROMAN HERO, hard held while racing close to MASK AND WIG in the first half mile, moved up steadily to head the latter on the stretch turn and, opening up a good lead, had to be shaken up near the finish to hold ED safe. The latter challenged strongly down the middle of the track in the stretch and was gaining on the winner. SMOKY SNYDER was always close up, but was not good enough. HOLSTER was bothered by JARGO right after the start and had a rough race. SWEET MAN showed early speed, but tired. HADTOBE swerved badly in the first eighth and tired after making a brief run after leaving the back stretch! ANHELATION also tired. JARGO saved ground in the stretch.
