ROBERT L., close to the pace from the start and forced to race wide, took command under vigorous riding when approaching the stretch, was placed to stronger urging after straightening up in the stretch and, shaking off MONTSIN, was under a hand ride the final sixteenth. The latter, probably best and on the inside much of the way, was taken back repeatedly the first three-quarters, made a bid when clear after reaching the last five-sixteenths, hung on desperately and, with better luck, might have triumphed.
