SLOANE NOT SURPRISED NEW YORK, N. Y., July 29. "I am not surprised," that was the brief and emphatic answer that John Sloane, of the New York State Racing Commission, replied this afternoon, when queried on the rejection of jockey Don Meades application in Chicago. Mr. Sloane was the sole member of the commission that was at Empire City for the afternoon. Chairman Swope was indisposed at his Great Neck, L. I. home, and John Hay Whitney had left for Saratoga. Members of the jockey club were unavailable for comment. President George H. Bull, of the Saratoga Association, came down for the final day of the meeting, but did not know or hear anything of the Illinois commission action.
