Consistent Consistent Miss Miss Militant Militant Wins Wins Again; Again; List List Classic. Classic, American American Derby Derby Eliqibles Eliqibles Kelley Filly Earns Sixth Purse in Row Overtakes Putitthere in Run To Wire in Crete Sprint to Prevail by Almost Length CRETE, 111., May 19. Extending her winning streak to six straight, P. L. Kelleys Miss Militant defeated six other three-year-olds in the six-furlong Outer Drive Purse, one of the features on todays program at Lincoln Fields. The daughter of Zacaweista and Periscope began her winning ways in Florida last winter, continued unbeaten in two engagements at Sportsmans Park and today turned back a field of better grade platers. In all now this year she has won seven of eleven starts and finished second on three other engagements. Miss Militant, guided by Don MacAn-drew, raced the six furlongs of todays encounter in 1:14 on a good track, and this effort brought her home in front three-quarters of a length before the favorite, Putitthere. Harkim was a bang-up third and then came Faywood to lead home Safety Light and Old Smokey. The Kelley filly, held at odds of 4 to 1, was slow to begin, but after reaching the far turn she began to improve her position steadily. In the home lane she responded to energetic handling when brought to the inside and she finally forged past Putitthere near the end for her well-deserved victory. Safety Light Fades Fast Putitthere took ihe lead with a rush after the opening quarter and at one time was in front by as many as three lengths, but he could not withstand the winner and just lasted to save the place from Harkim, who was trying for his third straight victory. Safety Light showed some early speed here, but after a half mile she began to give way and was soundly beaten by the time she reached the end. Faywood held on fairly well in the drive, but the only other starter, Old Smokey, was never prominent. Todays sport was witnessed by a crowd that looked even larger than yesterdays splendid opening-day turnout, to give further strength to prospects for a banner season. Littletown, a juvenile colt by Jamestown and owned by Charles Nuckols, left the maiden ranks after two unsuccessful tries at Sportsmans Park when he won the five-furlong fourth race. With Herb Litzen-berger atjhe reins, he led from start to finish, beating the strongly supported Water Tower a good three lengths. There wasnt much to the event as a spectacle, for the field was well strung out at the end. The third horse, Rex-Avis, was ten lengths behind the runner-up.
