Following Devil Divers triumph in the Domino Handicap at Belmont Park today, trainer John Gaver, of the Greentree Stable, announced that the St. Germans colt would start in the Withers Stakes Saturday. Shut Out, the Kentucky Derby winner, will not go postwar d in the week-end fixture. ELMONT, L. I., N. Y., May 19. As many as 15 of the 84 eligibles may answer the bugle for Saturdays 5,000 added Withers mile. Mrs. Al Sabaths Preakness record-breaker, Alsab, still shapes up as a stout favorite. R. S. McLaughlins Canadian-owned Pairaris and Foxcatcher Farms Star Beacon have earned a following in recent Belmont competition, however, while the well-seasoned Requested and Sun Again, who dead heated for the place award in the Preakness, will enhance the stakes general appeal. The starting field, it is indicated, will come from among Belairs Apache, W. E. Boeings Larrup, Calumets Sun Again and Wishbone, Circle Ms Sir War, Foxcatchers Star Beacon, Greentrees Devil Diver and Shut Out, W. M. Jeffords Flaught and Caduceus, King Ranchs Salto, L. B. Mayers Kings Abbey, Mrs. R. Mcllyains Bright Willie, R. S. McLaughlins Fairaris, Mill River Stables Fair Call, Mr. Frenchs More Than Few, Mrs. E. Mulrenans First Fiddle, J. E. Roeblings Lochinvar, Mrs. Al Sabaths Alsab and B. F. Whi takers Requested. Winners of Rich Stakes The group facing starter Cassidy will be one of the most representative in the recent runnings of this important one mile special for three-year-olds. In Alsab it will include the colt generally reckoned as the leader of his division, following his recovery of form in the Preakness. Theres a possibility the Withers also will be distinguished by the presence of Shut Out, the winner of the richest of all Kentucky Derbys, and Requested, who has the Flamingo and Wood Memorial to his credit, as well as sharing second in the Preakness. Several eligibles tightened for the stake during the work hours at the huge Nassau County course this morning. Bright Willie, who won the Swift at Belmont last week, came back with a handy mile in 1:40 on a "good" track, going the first six furlongs in 1:16. Caduceus sulked a mile in 1:44. Fairaris, honing to go a distance, went a mile in 1:40, breezing, and on out an additional furlong in 1:54. Flaught sharpened with a breezing five-eighths in :48 and 1:01. Kings Abbey breezed a mile in 1:43. Sun Agains move was one of the very best of the day on Long Island. He went a mile and a furlong handily in 1:53, his fractions being :49, 1:01, 1:14, 1:39. Shut Out breezed on the training strip, moving through a mile in :51, 1:17 and 1:46. If as many as 15 start in the Withers, it will gross 2,200 and net the winner 6",700.
