Warren Wright Stresses Invitational Race Idea No Whirlaway Challenge Issued Would Give Purse to War Relief Warren Wright, owner of Calumet Farm, one of the countrys finest racing establishments, has advised .Daily Racing Form that, although he favors a special war program invitational race proposed-f or Arlington Park this summer, he did not issue a challenge in behalf of his champion, Whirlaway. Wright said that if trainer Ben A. Jones racing program for Whirlaway could include such an engagement he Wright would be willing to accept an invitation to compete for the son of Blenheim II., but he does not want this gesture construed as a challenge. The master of Calumet Farm said further that if Whirlaway could be fortunate to win the purse, he would be willing to donate the net proceeds to the war relief agency to which the days program is to be dedicated. In his communication, Wright said in part: "While in Chicago, I was interviewed by those interested in Arlington, with an idea of seeing if I would run Whirlaway and because they thought it might make a contribution by being -a drawing card, thus helping their Defense Day program. I told them I would be very happy to do anything with Whirlaway that would help the defense plans, or that would make any contribution BUT, that I was not entirely familiar with Mr. Ben Jones plans for him; that I would have to be guided" entirely by Continued on Page Eight Warren Wright Stresses Invitational Race Idea No Whirlaway Challenge Issued Would Give Purse to War Relief Continued from Page One Mr. Jones as to any change in his racing program; that he has some very important stakes which we naturally are pointing him for andlhope he will win. I told them that, on the other hand, I felt sure that Mr. Jones would be willing to cooperate and, if possible and it conditions were satisfactory, run Whirlaway at. Arlington for the benefit of the Defense Day program. I further stated I felt an invitational race would be more satisfactory, as it would bring together more horses and create more interest. "I concluded by saying that if Whirlaway should run and was fortunate enough to win the purse, that I would be very glad to also donate the net proceeds of that purse to the same cause."
