Nebraska News and Notes AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Neb., May 19. Among the latest arrivals is Guy Schultz, the well known Oklahoman, with a string that includes the holders of three Ak-Sar-Ben track records Droop, at the five and one-half-furlong distance, and Ace of Spades at a mile and three-quarters, and also at two miles and 70 yards. "The Ace" set the latter mark a year ago. Other Schultz contenders include What Now, Prince Pad, Far East, Chanalis, Nameoki, Rickey Roo, Mike K., Ponca Boy, Mary Cardinal, Flight Ford and Mary Freda. Showing up the other day for the Ak-Sar-Ben meeting was Wilbur Brown, the Auburn, Neb., owner and trainer. His thirteen-head string consists of Hook It, Johnny Moran, Little Wasp, Charwitch, Tistrue, Schley Nurse, Donald W., Little A., Cherry Boy, Donnanette, Guest Boy, Omar Fox and Parisian Fox. In the stable that R. P. Knudsen, Pleas-anton, Calif-, brought here, is Tadpole, who gave them a run for the money every time out last year under the colors of the late ,Jphn Oliver. Others in Knudsens string are Edelad, Gerald T., Mister Modesto, First Daughter, Scar Leg and Black Slipper. The largest Nebraska stable at the Ak-Sar-Ben track is that of M. H. Van Berg, of Columbus. His 14 head include such notables as Honey Boat, Bert W., Waringa and Tetrashera, together with C-Note, Sas-nak, Tessie, Als Pride, Terman, Do It, Olo Mor, King Excelsior, Muggins and Elaborate. Other larger Nebraska stables include the Lakeview string from Chambers. They are working out over the Ak-Sar-Ben course with Royal View, Mr. Skid, Lake" view Marie, Lakeview Lady, Lakeview Miss, Free Spirit, Lakeview T., San Loyal and Birthday Cake. Among the good local horses who will be seen in action at Ak-Sar-Ben again this season are W. J. Ormsbys Fredda T., a nine-time winner in 1941. Ormsby also has Parisian Witch, another horse that has a habit of getting in the money, and Princess Nane, a router. Miss Show Me, who, as a two-year-old, won her first start at Ak-Sar-Ben in 1941, is back in the stable of L. L. De France, of Des Moines. De France also has Seven Oaks and All Style. Two of the best Iowa mounts to arrive thus far at Ak-Sar-Ben are Bachelors Bower and Shin Plaster, owned by C. W. Tague, of Kirkman, la. This pair turned in 11 wins between them in 1941. V. R. Zufelt, Richfield, Utah, is banking on Rain Crystal and Junes First to bring in their share of Ak-Sar-Ben shekels this year. Their 1941 record suggests that theyre in a fair way to do it. v A familiar figure about the Ak-Sar-Ben track again this year is S. F. "Cockeyed" Murphy, who is working Silent Tick, Colonel Bret, Sardarena, Corinthian, Win-namucca and Costep. J. E. Copenhaver has four horses quartered in Ak-Sar-Ben stables. They are Lady Valentine, Subdeb, Shasta Eddy and Shasta Marvel. Floyd Shultz has checked in with Clans-maid, Snug and Sky pirate Many old favorites are showing up at the Ak-Sar-Berl track daily now to combine with a great array of famous newcomers in promising the finest racing ever seen in this part of the country when the 1942 meeting opens at Omaha on Tuesday, May 26, for its program of 30 racing days, extending through July 4. Many familiar names are found in the 10-head stable that. Whatley and Fogelson, of Lincoln; Neb., have here. Among them are O. K. Mullen and Mighty Miss, a pair that turned in their share of wins last season; also Roidef, Cackle Time, Last Rose, Clock Winder and Young Agnes. M. C. Goodsell, who is handling the horses of Woolford Farm at Omaha this year, is also conditioning seven -mounts owned by W. W. Guernsey. The latter are Maihigh, Lady Ballet, Jeweltone, Sir Lark-mead, Counterthrust, George Wahlman and Undeniable. With a record of 11 times jn the, money last year, five of thenvih -the win position, Cantwell is taking daily workouts at Ak-Sar-Ben. The horse is owned by Charles Briddle, of Kansas City, who also has Bessies Pride at Omaha. Trainer Jimmy Wise, remembered as one of the top jockeys some years back, is on hand at Ak-Sar-Ben with the Dolan and Cunningham string of California horses. They are Linum, Valdina Delia, Matts Pride, Mollie Jo and Eniscorthy. Among the newcomers to Ak-Sar-Ben this year is J. V. Stewart, of Waitsburg, Wash., with an eight-horse string that includes Only Girl, Dipperconard, Maepop, Penehey, Fair Cloud, Tea Fight, Boniluna and Craig Token. Chryseis and Gustavia, a pair to be reckoned with on any track, are included, in the arrivals of Grover Gilbert, Billings, Mont. Gilbert also has Merina, Idle Lad and Gold Clock. "Sheriff" J." E. Duffy, of ONeil, Neb., checked in the other day at Ak-Sar-Ben with Kings Porter, Real Fagot and Miss Danyou. Also here is Joe Cooper, colorful California trainer, with Primo Riva, Tuxedo Eddy, Valdina Joy, Heno Heather and Come Catch Me. Checking in from Brush, Colo., were Mitchell and.Henderson with His Girl, Brown Pennant, Zirl, Sporting Code, Lapillory and Stavilla. Charles Goff, Chelsey, Okla., is training a seven-horse string. He has Anna Grand, Little Tramp, Seni Dick, Lazy Dick, Dick Act, Eddie Gardner and Escadon. From Brady, Texas, is F. H. Hill, whose Coil Spring, Cisco Miss and My Tet Rambler will be out for a share of the Ak-Sar-Ben money this season. Another Oklahoman seen around the local oval these days is E. E. Buchanan, of Byars, who has Sleepy Irish, Hilda May and Bright Louise. Bruce Johnson, of Shenandoah, Iowa, is counting on his good horse Skookumchuck to bring in his share of Ak-Sar-Ben wins this year. Johnson also has Down Hill.
