■ j j | I I j j I I j I j ; I j • 1 I Alquest Is Successful j In Renewal of Ben Ali Odds-On Ernst Colt Better Than 1 Length Before Anticlimax at End 1 I t LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 22.— Alquest delighted the majority of a week-end attend- J ance of some 15,000 at Churchill Downs l J ! here this afternoon as jockey Johnny J Adams booted him to a clever victory in the mile and a sixteenth of the ,000 I added Ben Ali Handicap, closing feature of 1 Keenelands highly successful spring meet- l ing. A. C. Ernsts strappy brown Questionnaire colt was a length and a half in ad- vance of H. P. Headleys Anticlimax, the , ! runner-up at the finish and C. U. Yaegers , * Parasang finished third, a length farther ! J away. The only other starter was Camps , J First, who collapsed badly through the , stretch after the , I 6 setting pace to the far turn, prompted by Anticlimax. The victor was odds-on, paying .80 and adding ,025 to earlier earnings. The racing strip was fast and Alquest negoti-j ated the distance in a creditable 1:45%. This was his fourth success in a campaign I of eight starts to date of the season and j the manner in which it was effected con- j tained a strong suggestion it will not be j his last. He carried 113 pounds and was: in receipt of weight only from Anticlimax, j who had up 115. Johnny Adams was! riding his third winner of the matinee, incidentally, astride Alquest. In addition to the prize award, owner I Ernst retains the tradition-steeped "Lexington Cup, emblematic of victory in thei Ben Ali, for another year. Alquest slipped through between these e two before they could stymie him, however, , ! and swinging for home was sailing along on a reassuring lead. Abraham Hirschbergs Black Badge was confidently backed into odds-on favoritism i bl the six and a half furlongs of the El-, mendorf and he got home by half a length H in a drive after fashioning a brisk early FJI j pace.
