McGi// Named State Steward at Detroit DETROIT, Mich., April 22.— James C. McGill of California has been named steward representing the Michigan State Racing Commission, succeeding Joseph A. Murphy, who resigned. The appointment was announced by commissioner William J. Dowling. Since giving up the position, judge Murphy has accepted a post on the board of stewards at Suffolk Downs, in Boston. McGill will report here for the Fair Grounds meeting, opening on May 20. McGill presently is serving in the stud at Bay Meadows and has long served in an official capacity at all tracks on the West Coast, as well as Arlington Park and Washington Park in Chicago.
