• , . j Take Wing to Be Nominated For Lincoln Fields Stakes Clyde Troutt, Benton, 111., owner, has designs on several of the six stakes to be renewed during the Lincoln Fields meeting to be again held at Hawthorne. His Take Wing, winner of the 1943 edition of the Lincoln Handicap, was a good winner at the recent Oaklawn Park meeting and is training at the Stickney course. Nominations for the Lincoln Fields stakes close Monday, May 1. With Signator, winner of the 1942 and 1943 renewals of the Crete Handicap, a six-furlong dash for three-year-olds and up- ward, in New York; Brownell Combs Miss • Dogwood, Steger Handicap winner retired, and Jack Skirvin planning to invade the East with Aletern, winner of the LaSalle and Francis Peabody Memorial, and Alorter Joliet Stakes winner; Take Wing appears the only eligible having a chance of repeating in one of the Lincoln Fields features. Each of the stakes carries ,000 in added money with the Crete selected to occupy the headline position on the first Saturdays program. Chicagos major racing season will open at Hawthorne on Tuesday, May 16. The two-year-olds will compete over five furlongs in the Joliet on the following Saturday and the Peabody Memorial again will top the Memorial Day program on May 30. The Steger, a run of six and one-half furlongs; the LaSalle, a jaunt of one mile and three-sixteenths and the Lincoln over the stamina-testing distance of one mile and one-quarter are on each of the following Saturdays. Entries for the stakes are being received at the offices of the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club, suite 730, 31 East Congress Street, Chicago, and at Churchill Downs, Louisville, Ky.
