HAMMER-LOCK was hustled going to the first turn, saved ground to come out with a clear lead, was steadied along to the end of the backstretch, was shaken up entering the stretch and maintained his advantage without urging in the final furlong. WINSOME LAD was kept within striking distance of the pace while on the outside, was sent up on the turn under urging, lost ground entering the stretch and closed willingly under pressure, although unable to menace the winner. LAYOUT trailed to the middle of the stretch turn, then closed with a belated rush to be running fastest at the end. MIDWAY SUN was under a tight hold for three-quarters, then was sent through on the inside entering the far turn and made a mild challenge nearing the furlong pole, but faltered. VASSALLO was going easily while forcing the pace, then weakened when put to pressure. WOODFORD LAD retired steadily after the first quarter. DO-REIGH-MI kept bearing out going down the backstretch and finished on the extreme outside. Scratched— 992652 Incoming, 116. Overweight— Vassallo, 3 pounds. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-8 MILES. GUNFLASH, closer to the pace than usual, was under a tight hold until turning into the stretch, then closed with a rush to catch the leaders nearing the sixteenth pole and was drawing away at the end. DEFENSE BOND was under steady restraint while setting the pace, lost command entering the stretch, then came again under pressure and held on gamely, although unable to deny the winners bid. FLIGHT MAN was formidably placed and had no excuse. DISCOURAGED saved ground while under a tight hold, moved through on the inside to assume command entering the stretch, then was weakly handled when displaced. TURNTABLE was never a serious factor. NEW DEALER weakened after a half mile. PRETTY TIGER was unable to keep up. JUSTINIAN II. UNSEATED HIS RIDER IN THE POST PARADE AND RAN OFF A HALF MILE.
