, | i Work on Monmouth Park Plant Retarded by Rains Management to Issue Statement Today on Its Immediate Plans OCEANPORT, N. J., June 3.— Torrential rains in this section over the past weekend retarded construction work on the new Monmouth Park race track here about a day and a half, contractors stated today, but the management continued to express confidence that the 36-day inaugural meeting will open as scheduled on June 10. Claims are not made that the ,000,000 plant will be completed by that date, it is not expected that the grandstand roof will be more than two-third finished. Nor will the clubhouse be completed, but hope for this was abandoned sometime ago when the long stretch of rainy weather and labor disputes began. Yesterdays downpour satisfied the management on one point, and that is the drainage system is adequate for any exceptional demands that might be made of it. It was announced that the management will issue a definite statement tomorrow concerning its immediate plans. Today, approximately 100 head of thoroughbreds are on the grounds for the revival of horse racing in northern New Jersey after a lapse of 46 years. Several carloads arrived from Kentucky. Among the stables coming from that sector was an eight-horse string in charge of R. S. Byrum. Other stables from the West were unloaded by C. C. Ortlieb, Tom Hill, L. V. Bellew, Jr., and Mike Rogan. From Maryland came a large draft in the care of Fred W. Hammon.
