Mercator Heads Field for Aqueduct s Lion Heart Steeplechase at Belmont ! a i J ] . ; . ■ ! , : ! Burma Road Main Threat off Four-Way Entry; Mush Mush Mignonette Purse Favorite BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 3.— The richest race on tomorrows Aqueduct-at-Belmont program is the ,500 Lion Heart Steeplechase, which has drawn the leading chasers in the land, headed by W. H. Lipscombs Mercator with 156 pounds, most of which will be W. Leonard. Of more interest to the average fan, from a speculative standpoint at least, is the ,500 Mignonette Purse, a six-furlong dash for . three-year-old fillies, that has attracted a field of five, including the recent winners, | Mush Mush and Bridal Flower. There are also two handicaps on the card that prom- | ise good sport. These are the seven-furlong Forest Park and the Castaway at a mile and sixteenth. These are the last two races, while the Lion Heart will be the fifth offer- j ing and the Mignonette is the sixth event. It shapes up as a vastly better program on the whole than todays inaugural offering of the transplanted meeting. Mercator, who captured the Meadow-brook Steeplechase with ease in his last start here, adds six pounds over that front-running effort, but will probably be favored. His chief rivals appear to be the Mrs. F. A. Clark and Mrs. Esther duPont Weir coalition of four horses, Bura Road, 152; Boo- ] jum II., 143; Raylywn, 141, and Deanslaw, ; 138. Burma Road, who is decidedly the best of this quartet, won the Charles L. Apple-ton and Corinthian Steeplechases here this ; year before finishing third back of Merca-tot in the Meadowbrook. He benefits by a drift of six pounds, but weight doesnt seem to make a great deal of difference to the jumpers. Floating Isle Could Be Factor The others are Delhi Dan, Floating Isle, Annotator and Adaptable. On his best form, Floating Isle would be formidable, but his races at Belmont this year have not been encouraging. Annotator and Delhi Dan, however, have shown enough improvement recently to profit by any mistakes made by the favorite, while Adaptable also gives promise of developing into a good steeplechaser. Mush Mush, who carries C. V. Whitneys eton blue silks will probably be the choice in the Mignonette, though Louisiana Farms Best Dress and Col. E. R. Bradleys Bridal Flower will also receive strong support on the strength of their recent triumph over the local strip. The trio will be opposed by Deering Howes Dutch Cut, and A. C. Ernsts Aladear, either of which could take all the money without causing too much of a surprise. Despite its small field, the Mignonette offers an intriguing contest. The much improved Black Swan, Spartan Noble, Bill Hardey, Stage Fire, Sorisky and Boy Angler loom the most dangerous of the 14 named for the Forest Park sprint. Go Chicago gets in this test with only 103 ; pounds and may be a factor at that light weight. The nightcap has attracted nine familiar middle distance horses, who are rated in ; class D, but most of whom have raced against stakes horses with some success. ; Havahome Stables Cencerro heads the Castaway with 122. pounds, giving three to : Petrol Point and Pindus, both of whom are in fine form. The others are Apropiado, 116; Pukka Gin, 114; Ricks Raft, 113; ■ Bell-the-Cat, a stablemate of Pukka Gin, 109; His Jewel, 106, and Bonfire, 103. It seems probable that the Aqueduct 1 meeting will revert to its home grounds 3 next Monday. Work was resumed in full 1 force at the Queens County Jockey Club track this morning and all the labor r troubles that have delayed reconstruction appear finally settled. Comparatively little ; remains to be done to the slightly rejuvenated - track that can be done without tearing - down the whole plant and rebuilding.
