Bar Grenade Winner in Blanket Finish FATR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 28. A half dozen fair three-year-olds running the one mile and a sixteenth of the Juliet Daingerfield Purse under allowance conditions in the seventh face brought together the best field on an ordinary card but evenly matched fields went postward in each event. Warm weather with a threat of rain greeted some 10,000 patrons. A really thrilling finish came out of the running of the first race when less than one length separated the first five horses to cross the finish line. H. Belks Bar Grenade received the close decision for first place with M. H. Van Bergs fast-finishing Valdina Bina getting the place award just a nose before River Downs Stock Farms Aloha Lee, a "field" horse coupled with the Kenilworth Farms Surgeon Dick, who was only a head farther back and a similar distance before Harv Aethel. The winner was ridden by jockey Willie Lee Johnson, who was accepting his first mount at the meeting, and returned 2.20. 4
