Gillespie Stable to Campaign 32 Head at Randall Park Meet RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, May 14. — A 32-horse draft unloaded at the siding close to the Randall Park race track represented the largest single consignment to reach the suburban Cleveland track. The entire shipment belonged to the Gillespie Land and Irrigation Company of Phoenix, Ariz., a huge ranching combine. Training duties are handled by C. E. Brown, Jr., and a score of assistants. The Gillespie outfit was highly successful during the Arizona mid-winter turf season with a large portion of their winners piloted by Billy Taylor, who will do the riding locally. Head man of the Gillespie stable is Chorus, a gray nine-year-old gelded son of Concerto. Chorus is a probable entry in the opening days feature, The Homestretch Handicap. This event, a six-furlong sprint carrying a purse of ,500, has been named in honor of the Twentieth Century Fox picture, to be run off Friday, May 16. Al Smitha wired in for two stalls for his big horse South Dakota and the latters baby sister North Dakota. South Dakota, who still holds the worlds record for the mile and 70 yards in 1:40 flat set at River downs two years back when he was a three-year-old. has won nearly 0,000 during his career. Aside from a few scores in New Orleans races, most of this sum was picked up in feature races around the Ohio circuit during the past two seasons. In addition to his worlds records, South Dakota is the holder of six different track records. Among the jockeys who have arrived at Randall are W. Pool, E. Danhauer, W. Lowe, E. Wright, M. Robinson, R. Haber. R. Aviles, M. Diaz. F. Bowman, F. Early, W. Murphy, L. Lombardi. D. Fairbanks, F. Scheih and W. McCadden. Haber, McCadden, Scheih and Danhauer were contenders for top jockey honors at Randall last season. Lombardi and Fairbanks are two neophytes who have yet to ride their first winner.
