Track Record Time Is Par at Havre de Grace HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., May 14.— Track record time seems to be par for the Havre de Grace course this spring, with thoroughbreds from both the sprint and distance divisions turning in sizzling races to establish new track standards. The firs.t new record to be established was when Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Natchez reeled off a mile and one-sixteenth in 1:42%, in winning the Edward Burke Handicap. Not only is that mark a new track record, but it constitutes the fastest race at the distance in the history of Maryland racing. Also during the first meeting, Stanley Sagners well-regarded juvenile colt, Saggy, sped four and one-half furlongs in :514/5, which took a second and one-fifth off the local record of :53. When Havre de Graces second spring meeting got under way Monday, another record went by the boards with the running of the first race, an event for maiden two-year-old fillies. Calumet Farms Airy, a daughter of Bull Lea and Proud One, made her deb at in stellar fashion by spinning five furlongs in :58% under 118 pounds, thus eclipsing the old mark of :59 Possibly the most surprising track-record spin was that credited to Art-Dale Stables vastly improved Gorget here Tuesday. The Maryland-bred son of Happy Time was a galloping winner, while turning a mile and 70 yards in 1:41%, to beat the old standard by one-fifth of a second.
