South American Grillette Purchased by A. S. Hewitt Will Be Shipped to New Owners Breeding Farm at White Post, Va. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., May 14.— Grillette, the South American-bred filly by Barranquero — Averfria, who as been racing for Gustave Ring of Washington, D. C, has been sold at private terms to A. S. Hewitt, breeder, of White Post, Va. The four-year-old filly, winner of two of her 12 races in this country, will be shipped to her new owners breeding quarters, where she probably will be bred this year. Grillette was foaled at the Haras Argentine in Argentine, and was shipped to this country as a three-year-old. She made her American racing debut this past winter at Tropical Park and, in her first two races, was second and third. Early in the current campaign she gave promise of developing into a top-ranking member of the filly and mare division. Her most impressive races in Florida this past winter saw her finishing third, beaten less than two lengths, behind Sylvia Dear and Cosmic Missile in the Columbiana Handicap. On the final day of the Hialeah meeting, Grillette was quite impressive while finishing just two lengths off Miss Grillo in the Black Helen Handicap. However, in her American campaign, Grillette was able to garner only ,750 in purse awards. Hewitt, a prominent Virginia breeder, who had a worthy three-year-old representative in this seasons "Triple Crown" races in Phalanx, whom he owns jointly with C. V. Whitney, should make good use of Grillette as a broodmare. Hewitt also has in his possession a very promising young stallion in Some Chance, a son of Chance Play and Some Pomp.
