TAV went to the front early, held a short lead when settled in the stretch and, responding to a good hand ride, increased her advantage. HASH-CAMP, never far back, came out for the drive and closed determinedly under punishment. BLACK PEPPER, outrun to the stretch, finished fast. HARVARD SQUARE, away alertly and forwardly placed to the final furlong, faltered nearing the finish. UP GRADE lacked early speed. GOOD SON moved up boldly on the inside on the final turn, then weakened. BURGOOLETTE was outrun. QUINTERO could not keep up. MEANGEN was done early. PADUCAH went to the front early, was taken in hand after three furlongs, responded readily when shaken up entering the stretch, then drew out and won as his rider pleased. AWAY, in close quarters soon after the start, moved up with a saving of ground to the stretch, came out for the drive, then closed well, but could not menace the winner. ELK HILLS, forwardly placed from the start, weakened when set down for the drive. RED SPIRIT began fast and raced well to the final quarter before tiring. ALTUCE. kicked by AWAY during post parade, had early speed, but failed to stay. DANSATION could not keep up. BAL BALI was never dangerous. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. KING VICTORY, slow to begin and far back to the final quarter, closed fast, but did not menace the winner. HAND TORCH went to the front early, made the pace to near the stretch, then faltered. GOLDEN LEGEND was outrun. MAC-PLIN gave way after racing prominently to the last three-eighths. GAEL VIXON quit badly after racing well to the stretch. Overweight— Hand Torch, 1 pound; Gael Vixon, 5.
