Souvenir Firearms Must Be Registered With Government WASHINGTON, D. C, May 14.— Expressing concern over the improper and illegal use of souvenir firearms, Joseph D. Nunan, Commission of Internal Revenue, today issued the following statement: "This message is for veterans who brought home souvenir machine guns ana other fully automatic firearms, and their families. The National Firearms Act requires you to register these weapons immediately, and for the safety of your wives and children, I urge you to do so now. "We have found that some of these weapons brought home by veterans have been stolen or otherwise acquired by criminals and used to commit murders, robberies and other crimes. In some cases, loved ones have been killed or maimed by the accidental discharge of these weapons. The safe thing to do is to have your weapons made permanently inoperative. This can be done without impairing the souvenir value of your gun. Both registration and safeguarding of your gun will be done free of charge, if you will communicate with the nearest Investigator in Charge of the Alcohol Tax Unit of the Treasury, or write to the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, Washington, D. C. Please act now."
