VALDINA PUNCH was sent up between horses to gain command nearing the far turn, drew clear, saved ground entering the stretch and was roused, then continued on under a drive. NEAT KEE showed speed to set the early pace, held on gamely when displaced and finished with good energy. LIGHT COUNT was well up from the start and had no mishap. OVER ICE finished resolutely after being unable to keep up early. BAD COLD raced evenly. SELCAP finished with a rush. PRIVATE HOWIE lacked early speed. FREDDIES GAME raced on the extreme outside. CALVERT, steadied while trailing the field to the far turn, moved up on the outside until reaching the final lane, then was sent through on the inside, responded to pressure and was up in the final sixteenth. GARDEN POT, under light urging while close to the pace, bullied his way through horses on the far turn, gained command entering the stretch, then bore out bothering JR. OSULLIVAN, was straightened and finished gamely. IDLE FOOL moved with a rush leaving the backstretch, came over sharply, impeding JOHNSTOWN KID in the stretch, challenged for command nearing the furlong pole, then weakened. WAKE ROBIN made up ground on the inside. WAPAN moved on the inside to challenge for the lead on the far turn, was shuffled back and never recovered. JR. OSULLIVAN was going well when impeded. LEO L. showed nothing. ERICA had speed for a half mile, then quit. BIRTHMARK was in the thick of contention leaving the three-furlong pole when he was caught in a jam and fell, losing rider. BILOXI BAY, allowed to settle into best stride early, moved close to the leader on the far turn, rallied when sent up to challenge for command and was forced wide as the leader bore out, then outfinished LUCIAS SUN. The latter assumed command at once, was steadied under stout restraint, raced wide entering the stretch and held on gamely. HUCKLE DE BUCK, under stout restraint for six furlongs, gradually improved position under intermittent pressure. PEGGY SILVER forced the early pace, then failed to rally under urging. FLIGHT MAN raced evenly. VALDINA REX suffered slight interference at the start and never recovered. ERNEST swerved leaving the gate, was immediately straightened, but failed to enter contention. HELENE, steadied back of the pace to the far turn, moved with ease to gain command, drew clear and was never in danger. BUCK C, in close quarters on the first turn, was taken back off the pace, moved after a half to gain contention, then finished gamely on own courage. BIG THICKET opened a long lead in the first half, saved ground, but shortened stride and was tiring at the end. ROLL TWO unseated rider by ducking under the gate, ran off a quarter, was caught by the outrider and showed nothing. BLUE PEBBLE passed tiring horses. JACO BLIXEN was unable to keep up. COLD SCOTCH, well handled while following closest to the pace, moved around the lead midway on the final turn, entered the stretch with a comfortable lead and was kept going under a smooth ride to outfinish HIRED MAN. The latter, most hustled early, improved position when called on, moved around horses and finished strongly under steady pressure. AUNT RUTH, outrun to the final furlong, finished willingly under pressure. SAM NORRIS had speed while kept within striking distance, then weakened slightly. ETERNAL GOLD passed tiring horses. GROUSER went evenly. ANDREA KAY retired steadily. FOXWICK set the pace under steadying restraint to the final quarter, then flattened ,out under a drive. STORMTIME was outrun. PROGNOSIS, well handled while setting the pace, saved ground, was roused straightennig into the lane to widen advantage and was in hand in the final sixteenth. MAGELLAN, kept under light restraint while racing on the inside close to the pace, moved gamely when called upon, but was not good enough. WEATHERCOCK, allowed to settle in best stride while outrun in the first half mile, rallied gamely when set down and was closing stoutly. SCOTTSVILLE remained within close attendance of the pace to the far turn, then made a game bid entering the lane, but was not good enough. FLOAT ME failed to respond to urging. HAMMER-LOCK, smartly handled while in close quarters on the inside, moved to the leader when the opportunity presented itself, was roused and drew out under steady pressure. SEE D. set a fast pace under light urging, hugged the inside rail throughout and held on gamely. WILLING SPIRIT, well up on the outside, moved menacingly on the final turn, then went evenly through the stretch. RESPIRE, slow to begin, was hustled between horses to force the pace before a quarter, held on gamely to the final furlong, then weakened slightly. BILL G., outrun to the final quarter, moved strongly on the outside. GENERAL DON, slow to begin, moved rapidly nearing the far turn, was blocked and had to be taken up.
