Bergolater Returning To Turf Wars Today Murlogg Speedster Starter in Fairmounts Collinsville Purse FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., May 30. Following the excellent and successful opening program at the local course, racing secretary Henderson Van Zandt has arranged an equally attractive nine-race card for the semi-holiday sport here tomorrow. Continuing its policy of benefiting charity organizations, the Fairmount Park Jockey Club has designated the five and one-half furlongs ninth race as the Illinois Veterans Services, Inc., Purse, with the net proceeds from the event being presented to that cause. The Collinsville Purse, divided into two sections by racing secretary Van Zandt, is scheduled at six furlongs, with seven overnight starters in each division, which will be run as the fifth and sixth races. The latter race appears the most interesting, as it brings forth the former stakes winner, Bergolater. The homebred Murlogg champion bowed and was turned out at owners Mrs. R. J. Murphy and Miss Susan Kel-loggs Evansville, Ind., farm after completing his fall campaign at Churchill Downs two years ago. Trainer James Hikes reports that the son of Isolater and Iceberg is now in fine condition and is confident that he will return to action as his former self. Bergolater, in his 1945 campaign, won eight races and only finished out of the money five times in his 16 starts, winning the 5,000 added one mile and a furlong Hawthorne Handicap shortly before his retirement. R. L. Oldhams Leapolino appears the most potent threat to Bergolaters supremacy, having raced exceptionally well at New Orleans Fair Grounds, and she has shown lightning speed in her morning workouts here. G. Martins Motivate also appears to figure prominently in the running, although she has not been postward this season. The first division of the Collinsville Purse matches Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Shipps good racer, Pipeliner, with J. Buckmans Stoogie and A. R. Powers Sun Gallahad. These three seem to dominate the field, with Pipeliners Chicago performance being creditable enough for an easy victory.
