International Chase to Homogenize Mott Fencer Beats Favored Fleettown Daiquari First Favorite in Twenty Belmont Park Races To Visit Winners Circle BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 12. — Thomas T. Motts Auburn Farm silks were carried to a surprise victory by Homogenize in the ,500 International Steeplechase Handicap today, reaching the end of the about two miles, six lengths before Brookmeade Stables Fleettown, the favorite. Bayard Sharps Lieut. Well was another eight lengths away, after setting the pace for most of the journey, while Kent Millers ancient Elkridge was fourth and last of the seven starters to finish. Homogenize returned 7.30. Mott, trainer Judy Johnson and jockey Frank "Dooley" Adams had collaborated earlier in the week in the victory of Floating Isle in the Mandingham Steeplechase here. There were three casualties in the International, Trough Hill falling at the water jump directly in front of the stands, Drift losing Bob McDonald at the fifth fence and Hampton Roads falling at the eleventh when still a contender. A crowd of 20,972 turned out in delightful weather, but the favorites continued to falter, with Fleettown the 19th in succession to fail his followers. Fleettown was inadvertently omitted from the entries released yesterday by racing secretary Jack Cooper, for reasons he gives elsewhere in this paper. The Brookmeade gelding had won last years International and his owner, Mrs. Dodge Sloane was anxious to let everyone know that neither she nor trainer Arthur White had any part in the error. Wins Slide Rule Purse A favorite finally found his way into the winners circle when Ted Atkinson got Mrs. Aksel Wichfields Daiquari home in the Slide Rule purse that followed the chase. The Eight Thirty colt reached the end of the six furlongs five expanding lengths before A. G. Vanderbilts Disconsolate, Two French colts started in this race and both ran well enough in spots to indicate that they may do considerably better in the near future. They were Gustave Rings Narviko and Dimitri Djordj adzes Silver Bridge. Lieut. Well went to the front at the start of the International and led by several lengths, except for a brief period when he was joined by Drift at the water jump. When Drift went down at the following fence, Lieut. Well was left in the clear, followed by Elkridge, Homogenize, Hampton Roads and Fleetown. In the run down the far side, Adams took hold of Homogenize and eased him back for a breather, while Elkridge, Hampton Roads and Fleetown began to close on the leader. Hampton Roads appeared about to move into second place when he went down at the eleventh fence. At that instant, Adams asked Homogenize to run and he quickly swept past Elkridge, saving ground on the final turn. Lieut. Well was joined by Fleettown on the outside and Homogenize on the inside approaching the last fence. Homogenize cleared the final fence in front and quickly opened a wide lead, crossing in front of Fleettown with a couple of lengths to spare and was hand ridden to the finish. Fleettown tired after his bid between the final fences, while Lieut. Well was very weary at the end. Elkridge ran as though in need of a couple of races.
