Bubble Gum Tries for Fifth Straight In Sprint Event at Churchill Downs Burgoo King Stallion Will 1 Carry Mrs. Creechs Colors Today; Has Five Opponents CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 12. — Tomorrows program is entirely devoted to the lesser lights presently quartered at the Churchill Downs course. The sixth race is perhaps the best offering on the eight-race agenda. Six capable sprinters were named for the sprint which includes Bubble Gum, Shaws Pride, Mountain Roar, Bold Lady, Merrymarch and Up Grade. The role of favorite in the feature undoubtedly will fall to the consistent Bubble Gum, who was added to the Creech unit via the claiming box in his last race. In his last trip postward, Bubble Gum led from start to finish to prevail over such opponents as Shaws Pride and Thunder Hoof. Apprentice Gordon Glisson, who piloted the five-year-old son of Burgoo King — Maschera, in his victorious engagements, has left for Maryland and apprentice Leslie Wickel, contract rider for the Creech stable, will attempt to keep Bubble Gums victories intact. Shaws Pride has been close up in recent starts and under his modest burden of 112 pounds should furnish the chief contention. Bold Lady raced creditably in Florida this winter and displayed speed in her only outing here. Mountain Roar has been working cleverly after a winter of inactivity and could garner the major honors. Merrymarch must always be regarded dangerous and his chances would be considerably en- hanced should the track be any other than lightning fast. The Omaha Purse, a four and one -half furlong test fashioned for two-year-old maidens matches a select group of promising juveniles anxious to graduate from the maiden ranks. Aunt Dora, Lou Sally, and Gimme appear most precocious of the group, which also includes Sis Tartan, Fanny Welsh and Cross Wave.
