Omission of Fleettown From Fixture Explained Stewards Order Entry Accepted For International Steeplechase BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 12. — John E. Cooper, racing secretary for steeplechases, offered the following explanation for the omission of Brookmeade Stables Fleettown from the original entries for todays International Steeplechase Handicap as supplied to Daily Racing Form. When entries closed yesterday — May 11 — John E. Cooper, racing secretary and handicapper for steeplechases, noticed the omission of Fleettown. He had expected this entry and felt there was an error and therefore tried to reach the Brookmeade trainer, Arthur White, by telephone at Pimlico. He was unable to locate him during the day, but finally reached him at the Ritz Carlton in New York at 9:30 p. m. Wednesday night. Arthur White said the entry had been made on May 9 and recalled to Cooper the circumstances of its making. Cooper agreed it had been made and telephoned Fred H. Parks, steward representing the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association. Parks got in touch with Francis P. Dunne, steward representing the New York State Racing Commission, and these stewards ordered the entry accepted. The race was redrawn this morning and Cooper, searching through the entry box, found Arthur Whites original entry, which had been caught inside the box in a concealed position. Officials of Belmont Park immediately called officials of Triangle Publications in New York and the latter furnished the type of past performances of the horse and dispatched it to the track by motor. The program press under the old clubhouse was brought into use and 25,000 copies of this printed. They were placed at the postcard booths and furnished to ushers and it was arranged that the public address system notify the patrons where they might obtain copies.
