To Again Meet Joyce Goldsmith PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 2.— The ninth running of the Pimlico ladies race has been scheduled for Friday, May 11, with a new twist, in fact several. This year it will be run in the afternoon for the first time, just prior to the 1951 renewal of the Jervis Spencer Steeplechase Handicap that afternoon. Also it will be at a mile and a sixteenth, whereas the previous eight run-on nings were all at five furlongs. The renewal this year promises to be more interesting and exciting that ever since the countrys two leading lady jockeys have both said they will ride. Wantha Davis of Duncan, Okla., a 31-year-old mother of a 10-year-old boy, who has victories over Johnny Longden and Jackie Westrope, and Joyce Goldschmidt of Baltimore, winner of the last two runnings of the race at Pimlico and an owner-trainer-exercise girl. Both met last year on the West Coast and Wantha Davis was a half-length winner over Joyce Goldschmidt. The field should attract at least eight feminine riders including the Bosley sisters of "Chase Me" fame, both of whom have ridden in the race but never won it. The complete conditions as announced today are: All horses to be ridden by ladies, minimum weight 130 pounds, overweight allowed; to be ridden in colors and start from the gate; no nominating or starting fees; horses which raced for more than ,000 since July 1, 1950, not eligible. The association reserves the right to refuse any entry; trophies to the winning owner and rider; entries close at the racing secretarys office Monday, May 7, at 10:30 a. m.; no wagering on this race.
