Daily Racing Form Speed Ratings The handicappers and statisticians of DAILY RACING FORM have evolved a Speed Rating system that is far superior to any yet devised. Instead of being based merely on track records, the ratings are based primarily on a the constant, or mean, speed of the track, allowances thus being made for variation in footing. By this method, when a horse earns a rating of, say 85, for a six-furlong race at Belmont Park, he earns the same rating by the same V effort at any other track. Speed ratings are shown in the past performances J after the claiming price or race classification.
