I I I » • 1 J J t I 1 s s + t y j s j r j j. j Hal Tass Launches 1951 Campaign at Aurora Six-Year-Old Trotter Won His i Last Four Outings Last Season AURORA DOWNS, Aurora, 111., May 9. -— Hal Tass, winner of his last four starts I at the close of the 1950 campaign, makes | his 1951 debut in a classified trot at Aurora Downs Thursday flight. The six-year-old Arletan bay horse, carrying the new colors of Eleanore James, Wheaton, 111., racked up a pleasing record under the guidance of Ken Cartnal last f fall. He finished off with seven wins, five seconds and six thirds for an earning K power of ,537. L Red Scott took Hal Tass over this winter and has been training the up-and-coming I trotter at Indianapolis for his new owner, t Scott arrived with his stable over the week- . end and gained a break in the draw for Hal £ Tass. He drew second post position and starts against Kinny Wyn, Great Siskiyou, Mottleys Choice, Peter Snip, Mr. Spud and Cleverness. The return of Kinney Wyn marks the seasonal debut of one of the famous Bur- f rights. This one being Joyce Burright Hankins, daughter of the renowned Mrs. Forrest "Ma" Burright. j Others in this race making initial starts £ are Great Siskiyou and Peter Ship. R The sixth race, a classified pace desig- h nated as the Illinois Hotel Association Pace, D brings together a well - matched field of * sidewheelers. Laura Jane Tryax and Barber Beach triumphed in their last Aurora starts. Orphan C., Vera Grattan, Margaret Ann Blackstone, Knight Cash and Helens Chief will be making first starts at Aurora this s season. Margaret Ann Blackstone made one ■ attempt this year to race on the trot, but M the performance was so poor that Walter j, "Pee Wee" Welch returned the seven-year- R old mare to the pace. V Thursdays card is filled full of new K horses. In the first, Deb Abbe and Melody B Knight go postward for their first 1951 starts. Dale Gray, Chief Wingay and Mr. H. in the second. Volo Dillard is the only newcomer in the third. The fifth finds Hall Key and Lesota Key. Lesota Barnes makes his bow in the seventh with Gold King and Helen N. in the nightcap. p Post-time for the first race is 8:30 p. m. p
