Tigers Release Johnson DETROIT, Mich., June 11 UP.— The Detroit Tigers cut southpaw Earl Johnson from their roster today to make room for the return of catcher Bob Swift to the active list. General manager Billy Evans said the veteran lefthander was released outright. A 10-year-man in the major leagues, he asked for his release rather than be shipped to the Tiger farm club at Toledo.
