Illinois Breeders Purse Attracts Full Line-Up Group Holds Annual Meeting and Election at Washington Tonight WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., June 11. — One of the racing and breeding industrys little known or understood activities will receive special attention on tomorrows Lincoln Fields program at Washington Park. Races will be named for the Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders Association, which holds its annual meeting and election in the Washington Park clubhouse tomorrow evening, and for the Future Farmers of America. The latter organization is similar to the 4-H clubs. Each year 3 » n »l si 10 boys and girls, member of the Future Farmers, receive scholarship awards for* free courses at some of the big universities and colleges. The awards are given oy the National Association of Thoroughbred Breeders, of ywhich the Illinois breeders group is an affiliate. Winner of the 1951 scholarship at the University of Illinois was Miss Joyce Eileen Bolton, of Milton, Hi., who has just finished her freshman year in home economics with high honors. Miss Bolton and her parents will be guests of the Lincoln Fields management and the Illinois Breeders at Washington Park tomorrow and at the latters annual meeting in the evening, it will be Miss Boltons first intimate" introduction to the industry which, in Illinois alone, has contribute more than twenty-six million dollars to agriculture *ln this state « i _ .J... in the past. 25 years, not to speak of the breeders direct aid~to worthy students. As part of her first experience at the races Miss Bolton will go to the winners circle to greet the winner of the Illinois Breeders Purse, feature race of the day., The top sprint will bring out a full field of sophomores, many of whom have been showing up fairly well this spring. The main contenders appear to be J. D. Weil, Inc.s, Roman Vulcan, winner of his lone engagement here last week; William Hal Bishops Open Way, victor on two occasions this year, one of which was in allowance company at Sportsmans Park; Va-lenti Stables Char S. V., who also graced the winners circle at the half-mile course in Cicero, and Shady Brook Farms Mesabi, runner-up to Humphrey in his lone appearance at this meeting. The best field of the afternoon will race k in the Future Farmers, which will be at one and one-eighth miles on the turf.
