"ZIPPO, unhurried when outrun early, came out to the middle of the track for the drive and, after taking command, won drawing away. CHALLEPORT reached the lead entering the stretch, faltered during the late stages, but was easily best of the others. DIXIE PEBBLE failed to make up appreciable ground when hard ridden through the stretch. BAMBOOZLE tired under pressure. FRANKIE D. gave ,way suddenly inside the final furlong. CHIC CHIC collided with SPRING GAL on the first turn, raced forwardly placed for six furlongs, then quit. DEVIL DUST had nc mishap. DEVILISH LAD raced wide. GRAND ISLE, slow to reach best " stride, threaded his way between horses to reach contention nearinghe stretch, forged to the front during the concluding strides and drew clear notwithstanding the fact that his rider dropped his whip at the seventy-yard marker. BLITZEN LADY, forced to take the complete overland route when making her belated rally, closed with good courage. LIKE A BREEZE, rushed into contention soon after the start, saved ground during the drive, but was not good enough. APPEASER was unable to keep up. VINITA TONEY lacked a rally. HUSH MONEY had no apparent excuse. ATOMIC ENERGY lacked ample racing room during the stretch run. MERRIEST fluit. SABSON and QUATRE BLANC were outrun. Scratched— 30256 Hasty Sun, 115. RED CHARGER, in nearest pursuit of the early leader for three furlongs, took command nearing.-the. furlong marker and increased his advantage under brisk urging. MR. COWBOY quickly sprinted into a clear lead, but faltered during the late stages and was unable to withstand the challenge of the winner. GLANCE came out for the drive, but was not good enough STEAMBOAT BILL raced evenly through the stretch without mishap. IMPERIAL WAR, in close quarters on the far turn, failed to recover. WAR ANTIQUE was forced to take up sharply when impeded near the three-furlong marker. OUR BEAUTY lacked speed, as did HOOPLA. COTTON TOP was eliminated when blocked on the far turn. STUBUR, racing the early leader into defeat to assume a slight lead entering the stretch, gamely withstood TRIM BULL in a long drive. The latter steadily improved his position on the outside and gradually was getting to the top one. NEB JR. faltered badly when shaken up for the ultimate test. DEAL ME IN lacked his usual early speed. LUCILLE CHIC tired. HOOPIE quit. THEONETOBEAT was never a forward factor. LEAPOISE raced wide. HELIOPOME showed nothing. DOMINION, never far back, disposed of the early pacemaker entering the stretch and, under clever handling, lasted to prevail over STEEPLE JACK. The latter, responding readily when roused for the drive, closed with good courage in a sharp effort. BRITISH ISLES set the pace to the furlong marker under occasional urging, then weakened. CASTILE failed to make up any appreciable amount of ground when brought to the outside for the drive. YALEquit. ON THE RIVER was always between horses.
