Ruth Lily Draws Much Attention at Arlington Named for All Available Events For Sophomores at Meeting Elwood Johnstons "cover girl" filly, Ruth Lily, drew the bulk of attention at Arlington Park over the week-end as stables from every racing point in the nation unloaded for the 25th anniversary season which gets under way Monday at the northwest suburban plant. The little California three-year-old, already winner of the Santa Susana and the Hollywood Oaks, has been entered in every major three-year-old event available on the Arlington program, including next Wednesdays 5,000 feature for sophomore fillies, the Cleopatra. "Shes a westerner with very good manners and a lot of run in her," groom Blackie Slesky says. "We sort of hope shell make a good showing here against your midwest and eastern runners." Photographers were the first to greet the Kings Abbey — Ice Cube chestnut. In California, just before she won the Hollywood Oaks, there were exactly 55 photos snapped of her. Two other thoroughbreds were in the Johnston contingent— English Star and Isle of Sea, both two-year-old colts. Trainer Charlie Leavitt is expected to arrive before opening day to put the finishing touches on Ruth Lilys conditioning for the Cleopatra. The Arlington population will be swelled considerably with the arrival today of Mrs. Ada L. Rices racing string from the East.
