MAIJO was allowed to race wide while in a good position, went up to dispose of WHAT when called upon and drew out. DEFLATION saved ground while prominent and wore down WHAT for the place. The latter made the pace until inside the furlong post and weakened. ABBIE CO caught tired horses while racing slightly wide. SHALLOW BROOK gave way in the drive. THISTLE JAY had no mishap. KNIGHT-AT-ARMS was outrun. CLASSIC NIGHT was through after a half mile. TUMBLER had brief speed and quit, as did STEEL STRIKE. Scratched— 612264 The Spaniel, 109. BESEECH was with the leaders on the outside, took command leaving the turn, drew clear and won with something left. TAMALE lacked speed, swung to the middle of the track for racing room in the stretch and closed best of the others. MUCHO MAS saved ground and had no excuse. UNCLE JAY was hard pressed to maintain a narrow advantage early and tired. ADAMANT went well for a half mile and gave way, as did BLUE HELMET. BURBERRY fenced poorly when tiring. SANDY FLASH collided with NOVA LUNA and fell just after the eigHth obstacle. The latter was closest to the pace throughout made a mild bid leaving the turn, gave way under her own courage in the final furlong and appeared short of a top effort. JULTIS had no excuse. BELFASTER, sluggish at the break, was forced to race wide improving position and finished with good courage, but was no match for the winner. FORT SALONGA pressed the pace on the outside, was carried out entering the stretch and weakened in the drive. TORCH OF WAR was slow to start and went by tired horses with a belated bid. MR. MIDNIGHT raced slightly wide while outrun. SUGARFOOT saved ground and haT*- no excuse. DARK ROYAL had brief speed and gradually dropped back. ROMANTIC ROMAN trailed throughout. COMMON CAUSE, eased back on the first turn when in a trifle close, saved ground while a sharp factor, came through on the rail to engage the leaders in the drive and drew clear in the late stages. TOCOLI, on the rail in the opening quarter mile, was taken out when clear on the backstretch, lugged in during the drive, got the nod over THE DIVER and was disqualified. The latter was a keen contender while between horses and held on stubbornly, although bothered through the drive, and came out of the race slightly lame. ISOGRADE was slow to start, made up some ground when called upon and tired in the drive COVETED dropped back on the final turn while under stout restraint and failed to rally. IMPERIALIST made the pace for six furlongs, became rank and took several bad steps in midstretch and could not be persevered with thereafter and came out of the race in distress. CHERRY PRINCE went into command from the start, drew out when roused on the final turn and, tiring very badly in the late stages, lasted over HALS PAL. The latter saved ground under rating, moved up when put to punishment and was getting to the winner. LIGHTNING BUG, steadied along in the opening half mile, moved up to be closest to the pace leaving the final turn and closed willingly. JOHN JOSEPH was slow to begin.
